HUSKY  DRAFT OR SNOW - MOBILE SAFARI  WITH  UNDER - ICE  FISHING  AT  BAIKAL

Under - ice fishing in February – March

Experienced  guidance,  equipment,  and  outfit  provided.

Warm  clothes  required.

In  the period  since  December the itinerary  is provided through  the Siberian forest  along the Primorsky  mountain range. After  Baikal freezes,  the  journey is  provided  on  the ice.

The  tour  includes  a  day  of  recommends  and  practical  training  of  tourists  prior  to  the  commence  of  the  program.  Simultaneously  only  two  pax  can  participate  in  the dogs'   safari,  so  that  each  could  manage  one  dog’s  harness. 

A  full  day  dogs' or snowmobile  safari  may  be  included  into  a  standard  itinerary  if  you  stay  at  Baikal  a  couple  of  days. 

If  the  number  of  a  group  exceeds  2  pax  these  tours  can  be  combined  with  each other,  so that they  can  be  arranged  on  the  same  itinerary.  Then  participants  change  snow  mobiles  and  dogs  draft.

Day  1  Arrival  in  Irkutsk.  Transfer  to  hotel  to  Listvyanka  village  70 km from  the  city.  Check  in.

Day  2  Drive  of  the  dogs  onto  the  ice or by snowmobiles.  After  the  first  distance  16  km  tourists  arrive  in  a  camping  in  the  taiga  (Siberian  forest),  200  m  from  the  shore  of  Baikal. (On  request  the  journey  on  this  day  can  be  extended  for  16  km  more). Lunch  at  camping.  Walking  around  the  winter  forest,  watch   the  scenery.  Siberian  banya  (steam  sauna),  dinner  with  Russian  vodka.

Day  3  After  breakfast  theory  of  the  winter  under - ice  fishing  at  Baikal  and  its  peculiarities.  Other  preparations.

Fishing  of  grayling,  omul  through  the  ice - holes  of  the  lake.  Holes  in  ice  are  drilled  a  night  before  the  fishing.

Day  4  Fishing.  After  lunch  return  to  Listvyanka  by  dogs  or  snowmobiles.

Day  5  Limnological  museum.  Transfer  by  bus  to  Irkutsk.  Departure.

Weather  at  Baikal  in  winter.

Winter  climate  at  Baikal  is  milder  than  anywhere  in  Siberia.  The  temperature  -12 – 18 C,  10  degrees  higher  the  usual  one  in  Irkutsk.  Nevertheless  strong  cold  winds  bring  the  contrast  variety  to  the  warm  winter  microclimate,  especially  in  February.  The  speed  can  reach  40 mps.  The  lake  freezes  in  January  until  May  15.  If  winter  is  snowy,  deepings  on  ice  of  the  lake  are  filled  with  snow,  the  other  surface  is  polished  by  winds  like  a  mirror.
