The northern part
of Baikal is
less populated and
almost unknown to
travelers due to the absence of the conveniences.
The easiest access to
this part of Baikal is
from Ulan - Ude or Severobaikalsk, both are located on
the territory of
Buryatia. The journey to the hot springs of the lake is provided by
boat with services meals onboard.
The territory of
Baikal belongs to
5 preserve and national parks.
Barguzin preserve park
is the oldest one
established in 1916 as the sable reserve. Now Barguzin is included into the international
net of the biosphere stations. It
occupies the north
- eastern part of the shoreline (100 km) of the lake. Due to the protection by
the state, Barguzin
territory, covered by
the taiga forest, abounds in
animals, birds and flora. The
first itinerary includes
visits of Davsha, Khakussi, a
bay with a 4 - km
sand beach. The
famous hot springs of Khakussi are at 1 km distance from
the shore.
The second itinerary
is an overland trip by bus from the capital of Buryatia, Ulan - Ude,
to the remote, wild and one of the most remarkable sites
of Baikal –
Ustj - Barguzin. It is the
center of the Zabaikalskiy
national park. Here you will
enjoy quietness and
beauty of Baikal. Undertake a
trip to the Chevirkuisky
Bay, where you can get sunburn and swim in the warm water of the bay. You will watch those landscapes, which you never see at other places around
Baikal.
Option: If circumstances and weather permit you
will be lucky to go by boat to the Ushkanji islands
to watch the Baikal seals
rookery.

Arrival in the bay of Khakussi. Swim in the

the taiga of the Barguzin.

boat to Severobaikalsk.
