Day
1 Arrive in Irkutsk. Trf to hotel. Check in. City sightseeing. You visit the place of foundation of Irkutsk in the 17th century, the eternal flame to the Heroes, Znamensky monastery and the Polish
cathedral. The central street of Irkutsk leads to the embankment
of the Angara - river, the favorite place of the inhabitants of
Irkutsk.
Decembrists’ museum is the important part of the history of
Irkutsk. The museum keeps the vivid history of the Russian nobility, who were sent on exile to Siberia. They lived here after the hard
labor at mines, carried on an intellectual life, writing and discussing
works of art and literature, arranging musical concerts and performances
at home in the winter evenings.
Alternative: Local Lore museum, where you will learn the history of the Irkutsk region. Art gallery
– a rich collection of the paintings of the Russian and Siberian
famous painters. A considerable part of it were gifted to the
museum by the private collectors and patrons.
Dinner in a Russian-style small traktir. Here you will be welcomed
by the waitresses in Russian sarafans, who will serve you dishes
of the Russian national cuisine.
Day
2 After breakfast trf to Listvyanka village
– the most popular
and the nearest place to Irkutsk at Baikal. On the way excursion
to the ethnographical open
- air museum Taltsi. The other name is
a museum of the wooden Siberian architecture, where log houses, whole peasants’ household yards were brought to the museum from
the Siberian villages, which were under threat to be flooded after
the construction of the hydro - power plants on Siberian rivers. Excursion through Listvyanka village to see the wooden village
church of the saint Nicholas, local souvenirs, the place where
Angara - river flows out of Baikal.
By desire, climb up with funicular road
to the mountain top to enjoy the panoramic overview of Baikal
and Angara, have a wonderful walk back through great siberian
forest.
Baikal Limnological museum, which was the branch of the scientific
Institute of Limnology, and traditionally it goes on investigations
of the lake now. The museum is the source of the interesting information
about Baikal, some guides of the museum are scientists of Limnology. The most enjoyable here is a new aquarium with Baikal seals and
fish. Short boat ride around the lake
can be organized on place. This
is one more chance to breath a cool Baikal air and watch the transparent
water of Baikal.
